Hudak had blogged about how this is the first time that actual coaches have been sent to a Junior Worlds competition. She’s excited to finally have the sport recognized by the National Governing Body and hopes that one day they may be a part of the US Ski Team.
At only $99 with no blackout dates, the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce has announced that they are again offering special virtual season passes to ski or snowboard. Off the 210 Freeway, Mt Baldy is located just minutes north of Upland and Claremont making it the closest ski resort to most of Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire and all of Orange and San Diego Counties.
Keith Hunt President of the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce said, “For less than the price of 2 regular all day lift tickets you can ski or snowboard at Mt Baldy the entire season. That means after a couple of uses you are, in effect, skiing or snowboarding for free. Mt Baldy is the closest ski resort to most of Southern California so less time is spent driving, and more time skiing or snowboarding while saving money. That’s two benefits that are important to our guests and probably the best deal at any ski resort anywhere!”
A physical pass will not be issued as these are virtual passes. Instead, in a Ski Area database at the Ticket Office, skier and snowboarder information is maintained. Based on availability, at least by midnight the day prior, advance online reservations are required. On each visit, Skier need only present valid picture ID at Ticket Office.
Hunt added, “These special virtual season passes were extremely popular last season and encouraged a lot of skiers and snowboarders to try Mt Baldy. Although these passes are only available exclusively through the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce and not from the Ski Area directly, the offer may be withdrawn at any time by the Ski Area. We are also advised that the price will increase monthly until we open for skiing at which time the passes will no longer be available.”
He also said, “Passes are available in unlimited quantities while offer lasts. Grab yours now, and then send link to all of your friends and relatives so they can take advantage too,” concludes Hunt.
Over the years the halfpipe has become a big hit among snowboarders. Snowboarding has been given the opportunity to let the popularity of the halfpipe progress through the presence of the event in the Olympics. The skiing world has been envious of this event for years, seeking to get the same sort of excitement into the sport of skiing.
After seeking permission to include the halfpipe event in the Olympics for a while now, The International Ski Federation has unanimously approved to seek permission from the International Olympic Committee to hold the halfpipe event for both men’s and women’s skiing in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
There is no indication that there would be any snag in the approval of this event in the Olympics. As mentioned before, the event is very popular in snowboarding and figures to bring a lot of athletes and sports blog fans together to try and take part in this competition.
Many people on ski teams around the world see this as a big step for the world of skiing. This could give skiing the same sort of popularity as snowboarding already has.
If the event is not approved there will certainly be an uproar in the skiing community. There are many people that ski that feel like having this event will give an extra sense of credentials to their sport. These athletes feel like more people will see the sport that they take part in as a more legitimate sport if the men’s and women’s halfpipe event are in the upcoming Olympics.
In the past 2 decades the popularity of snowboarding has skyrocketed around the world. Since the rise in popularity we have progressively seen more events being held everywhere, including a snowboarding presence in the Olympics. The sport took another big step forward in expanding its popularity recently.

Snowboarding is a great sport played by people of all ages. Children love playing the sport due to its related excitement and fun, while others follow the sport as a passion. The sport is truly exciting especially for people who love speed and sliding from the high snow covered mountains. However, there have been some controversies encircling the snowboarding history.
It is really difficult navigating back to the history of the sport as there have been many people who claim to have invented the sport. Here are a few people who had claimed to have invented the sport.
- The first person known to have discovered the sport is Tom Sims. He had invented the sport some time near in 1963 and had made his first snowboard using plywood. Sims was in his 8th grade when he crafted his snowboard in the shop class and eventually named it as Ski board.
- Another person known to have discovered snowboarding is Sherman Poppen. It was about 1965 when Poppen he designed his first snowboard. He called it as snurfer and crafted the board by bolting together two skis. He also attached a rope to help the rider maintain his balance when surfing the snow.
- The next person from the snowboarding history to have discovered the sport is Jake Burton Carpenter. Burton started designing snowboards in 1979 using fiberglass and also added ropes to maintain a balance when sliding on the snow. The primary design was later advanced by making use of steel edges at the sides.
Snow boarding at the Vancouver Winter Olympics has had its highs and lows.
When it comes to snow boarding on the international scene, the United States has been at the forefront and the Vancouver Olympics has not been any different. While the halfpipe events have not been run, it has all been about snowboardcross and the Americans.
The biggest news out of Vancouver during this Olympic Games has been the lack of snow. You sure couldn’t tell during the snow boarding events. On the American side, defending Olympic champion Seth Wescott defended his title in the men’s snowboardcross as he captured gold. US Women’s snowboardcross rider Lindsey Jacobellis, who won the silver in Torino in ‘06, finished a disappointing 5th. Canada did get to see another gold medal won on home soil as Maelle Ricker captured gold in women’s snowboardcross.
When it comes to snowboarding and the Winter Olympics, the halfpipe is king as the legends on both the men’s and women’s side are live and in effect in Vancouver. Shaun White, Hannah Teter, and Gretchen Bleiler are in Vancouver and just about sure bets to be on the medal podium. The snowboard qualifying and finals will run through the weekend. Stay tuned into NBC’s Winter Olympic coverage for the latest in snow boarding.

When it comes to snow boarding I always tell people that the most important thing that you have to consider is safety. Not just your own safety, but also the safety of others, please read through my tips whether you are an expert snow boarder that has never crashed, or if you are about to hit the slopes for the first time in your life. Whatever level you are at, snow boarding safety is important to everyone.
Tip Number 1
Snow Boarding Equipment Safety
Before you jump on a board you need to check that it is working properly and that there is nothing wrong with the board itself. You also need to check that it is the correct size, and that it is holding your snow boarding shoes properly. The fact is that when you are snow boarding, you rely on the safety of the board just as much as you do on your own skill.
Snow Boarding Clothing
If you are hitting the slopes you have to understand that looking great and being safe are two different things altogether. If you are considering what kind of glasses to wear then do not think that your average sun glasses will do the trick. When you are snow boarding it is possible to be blinded by the snow, or least get sore eyes, so make sure that you have proper UV protection for a start. The next step is to think about how you are going to keep warm. This is very serious as if you are not warm then it can do more than just ruin a days snow boarding. What you should do is wear warm clothing underneath your snow boarding gear, and you also have to 100% make sure that everything that you are wearing is water proof. Everyone has had a snow ball fight wearing gloves that aren’t water proof. Were your hands cold? Of course they were. That is why your clothing must be waterproof. The next step when it comes to clothing is thinking about your safety, and by safety I mean padding. Yes folks, looking like a football player when you hit the slopes is the best thing to do, you can be sure to have a lot less pain when you fall.
Snow Boarding – Food and Water
When you are snow boarding it is important that you eat and drink enough to get by. When you are going to the slopes it is not recommended that you eat too much before you start, but make sure that you have a healthy snack and be sure to drink plenty of water. People always think that because it may be cold, that they are not thirsty, however this a reason why many people get dehydrated on the slope. Did you know that more people suffer dehydration from skiing than from long jump, table tennis and dancing put together. Why is that? Because people need to think about what they need, rather than the usual signs that they may be thirsty. However, when people do go snow boarding accidents can happen and that is why you must be prepared. When you go on a long run you should take emergency food and drink. What I mean by this is around 1 litre of water and maybe cereal bars or something. What we are talking about is calories, fat and protein. This means that if anything bad was ever to happen then you could surely get something to eat and drink, and that will make you last longer in a bad situation.
When you are snow boarding safety is of paramount importance. Everyone can still enjoy themselves, but they should take precautions when they do. What I recommend is that people should take a mobile phone with them when they go snow boarding, and also bring a replacement SIM card. Why is that? Because if you do not get a signal out on the slopes then you will double your chances of getting one, if you have a phone that uses a different operator. A replacement battery is also a great idea, but only for emergencies!
oh yeah! 1 inch of snow in GA and all the schools are shut down! So I bundled up, grabbed my snow board, and hit the slopes! But… it was only 29 degree with no wind, I don’t have a snow board, and there are no slopes around here… Oh the things I can come up with though. Ski Jacket liner $50, skate board with no wheels $10, the fairway in my back yard $(probably a lot but I’m not paying for it), plus my camera and what not $350, but having the best snow day ever $priceless!
