Winter Olympics – Snow Boarding

Snow boarding at the Vancouver Winter Olympics has had its highs and lows.

When it comes to snow boarding on the international scene, the United States has been at the forefront and the Vancouver Olympics has not been any different. While the halfpipe events have not been run, it has all been about snowboardcross and the Americans.

The biggest news out of Vancouver during this Olympic Games has been the lack of snow. You sure couldn’t tell during the snow boarding events. On the American side, defending Olympic champion Seth Wescott defended his title in the men’s snowboardcross as he captured gold. US Women’s snowboardcross rider Lindsey Jacobellis, who won the silver in Torino in ‘06, finished a disappointing 5th. Canada did get to see another gold medal won on home soil as Maelle Ricker captured gold in women’s snowboardcross.

When it comes to snowboarding and the Winter Olympics, the halfpipe is king as the legends on both the men’s and women’s side are live and in effect in Vancouver. Shaun White, Hannah Teter, and Gretchen Bleiler are in Vancouver and just about sure bets to be on the medal podium. The snowboard qualifying and finals will run through the weekend. Stay tuned into NBC’s Winter Olympic coverage for the latest in snow boarding.
